Net Zero Is In The Hot Seat
After writing “The Fuzzy Math of Net-Zero Is Under Attack,” there was a lot of discussion in comments, Linkedin, and Twitter, so I thought I might continue the dialogue with some additional points. This is a reminder that our problem with net-zero is in the second half of the definition, the “balancing out” part. The only purpose of net-zero is to permit the continued burning of fossil fuels. If you live somewhere like Quebec with electric heating powered by zero-carbon hydroelectricity, you have nothing to offset; from an operating emissions perspective, you are at zero carbon emissions already....
